Fraud by name but not by nature, this Pink Floyd tribute band
brilliantly captures the music of the original, showcasing music
from albums circa 1970 to1980.
Four accomplished musicians take to the stage at this great
little venue (The Boardwalk in Sheffield) and begin the set with
an excellent version of the Floyd classic Shine On You Crazy
Diamond. The song was originally written as a tribute to Syd
Barrett who left the Floyd project early on and Fraud's interpretation
of the number features a stage back projection showing pictures
of Syd. Following Shine On
the set replicates the
Wish You were Here album by going into Welcome to the
Machine followed by music from Pink Floyd Live a Pompeii
featuring film footage of the ancient Italian City.

The set progresses with a mixture of numbers from Dark Side Of The
Moon including Breathe, Us And Them, Time and Money
along with a couple of tracks from the Animals album namely Sheep
and Dogs. Half way through the set the band takes a short break
and returns to play the second half that is mainly dedicated to music
from The Wall featuring movie clips of the brilliantly produced
cartons segments and of course Mr. Geldof himself. Another Brick
in the Wall, Floyd's only real venture into the singles chart
goes down really well but the climax of the show Uncomfortably Numb
sends the small but very appreciable crowd home happy.
The appetite for this kind of music remains. Pink Floyd headlined at
last year's Live 8 concert and for me stole the show dwarfing the likes
of U2, Coldplay, Robbie etc. The chances of Floyd including Roger Waters
playing live again in the near future looks remote so Pink Fraud go
a small way to filling the gap.
