It's exactly two years (all but a day) since I saw Regenesis
last time (see previous review below at
the Memorial Hall) and it was great to see this Genesis tribute
band again, this time at the Boardwalk, Sheffield.
The current tour mirrors the Genesis "Seconds Out"
tour circa 1977 featuring material from the "Trick of the Tale"
album ("Squonk", "Robbery Assult and Battery" etc.)
mixed with some really old Genesis numbers including "Cinema Show",
"I Know What I Like", "Carpet Crawlers", "The
Lamb
..Musical Box" medley and the classic "Suppers Ready".
Tony Patterson's voice has an uncanny resemblance to Peter
Gabriel's vocals so perhaps the slightly later Phil Collins numbers
don't work as well but musically the band accurately replicates the
original Genesis sound. One major change to the line-up since I saw
them last is that the band now includes two drummers, this works brilliantly
for climax of the show "Dance on a Volcano" followed by "Los
Endos" featuring the customary dual drum piece. The traditional
encore "The Knife" closes the show.
The music and live performance of Genesis lives on due
to the talents of this excellent tribute band and they are a must see
for all Genesis fans. For details of the current tour go the ReGenesis
