Robert Plant played the relatively small University Octagon venue during his extensive UK tour promoting his latest solo album, Dreamland. Rumours still persist about a possible reunion with the other two surviving members of Led Zeppelin, but in the meantime, Plant continues his solo career. Plant's seemed to enjoy himself on stage and joked with the audience, sometimes playing the forgetful old man and making reference to the band's new single, saying it was proving very popular in the Radio Two Top Twenty. Plant's voice seemed as good as ever, although perhaps not straying into the screaming octaves that he might have done thirty years ago. He has surrounded himself with a young band featuring five other members including two guitarists and bass player, who unusual to see in an rock band, often played an upright double bass. The set included a share of Zeppelin numbers including an exellent version of The Battle of Evermore mixed with Plant's own material, predominantly from the new album, Dreamaland. Zep's Whole Lot Of Love closed the show as a great finale. |
