I was sad to hear recently of the death of David Carter (pen name: David Matthews). David was the writer of the book "The Cyprus Tapes" which draws on his experiences while on Cyprus as a writer/producer for the BBC during the conflict on the island in the mid-seventies.

David first contacted me via my website as he was interested in some of the photographs which I had taken during my holiday to Northern Cyprus in 2002. David was writing a new book at the time and he asked me if he could use some of my photos for it. I agreed but I’m not sure if the book was completed or published.

I did exchange a number of emails with him and I asked him if he could give me more information on the history of the island as having been there on holiday it had stimulated my thirst for knowledge on the subject. Also, I am particularly interested in 20th century history and remember very well watching the events unfold on TV in 1974. I was keen to gain more details and background to the conflict and David kindly supplied me with a detailed history.
